A numerical and experimental investigation of non-linear deformation behaviours in light-frame timber walls

In recent decades, there is a trend in Scandinavian countries to build multi-storey residential houses using prefabricated timber modules. It highly efficient construction process with less environmental impact and material waste. A significant building element the modules light-frame wall, which has be carefully analysed optimized this process. This paper presents new parametric Finite Element (FE) model that can simulate both in-plane out-of-plane deformations walls. flexible (Eurocode based) approach define properties of mechanical connections introduced. numerical presented through simulations several walls were verified full-scale experiments. The results indicate could achieve fairly reasonable accuracy approach. Furthermore, studies are discussed from global local points view, investigate effects certain parameters not considered design method according Eurocode 5.
